Determining Atmospheric Winds using Satellite Observations

Magnitude and Direction of Forces

The force diagram of two opposing forces is represented by the black and red arrows. The resulting force is represented by the blue arrow. Since the two forces are acting in opposite directions, the net force is in the direction of the largest force and its magnitude is the difference between the individual forces.
