ERBE Exploration 2 - ENSO

The El Nino/Southern Oscillation, or ENSO, is a large scale climatological feature of our atmosphere. By May 1987 an ENSO was fully developed. Use the Java applet below to access the longwave and shortwave radiation for May 1987 and the May 5-year mean(1985-1989). Units are Watts per meter squared. Use the difference button to generate a May 1987-May (1985-89) difference map for both the longwave and shortwave radiation. Explain the differences between the ENSO year and the 5-year average. (Use additional data if necessary.) <
