This applet simulates what happens inside a typical house when the temperature and dew point temperature values outside the house change.
Outside, you have control over these values by sliding (dragging) the red-colored portion of the two outdoor thermometers (on the right) -- one for temperature and one for dew point temperature. The Relative Humidity meter below these will instantly tell you the value for the outdoors.
As you change the values outside, the indoor environment is slower to change. (We run this simulation at several times normal speed!)
Inside the house, you can control:
In the winter, you probably would set the furnace to to ON (by checking the checkbox) when the temperature falls below the Thermostat setting. In the summer, you may set the air conditioner to go ON when the indoor temperature rises above the Thermostat setting.
