The subtropical jet stream can be recognized in infrared satellite images by the cirrus clouds that often accompany jet streams. In this example, a strong subtropical jet extends northeastward from the equatorial Pacific Ocean across Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico and over Florida (See Figure 7.9 in your book).
