Tornadoes and the Fujita Scale

A record week of tornadoes occurred during May 4-11 when 386 tornadoes touched down in 19 states killing 41 people. Only four twisters were rated as an F4 (estimated winds between 207 and 260 mph). The monthly total of 562 tornado reports was also a record, breaking the June 1992 record of 399 twisters (the May record was previously 391 tornadoes in May 1992.)   Use the applet below to test you ability to categorize tornadoes.
